The Green Zone: Opportunity Zone Funding for Brownfields Redevelopment

22 May 2019   Chicago   3:00 - 5:00 P.M.

Opportunity Zone financing creates unique and powerful incentives to invest in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Yet the timelines and restrictions on Opportunity Zone Funds tend to disfavor development that potentially requires significant environmental investigation and remediation. Because brownfields – including abandoned or demolished manufacturing facilities – typically dominate many of these neighborhoods, developers must identify approaches to using Opportunity Zone Funds to address the environmental work necessary to bring these abandoned properties back to life.

This seminar is intended to explore options and approaches for using Opportunity Zone funding to encourage brownfields redevelopment. Our panels bring together experts in creating and using Opportunity Zone Funds with industrial real estate practitioners and brownfields redevelopers. The resulting discussions will be of significant value to investors, developers, environmental consultants, and others with a strong interest in making these programs work to improve communities.
